LARY is a one-on-one mentorship program and stands for Lawrence Assistance Reaching Youth. The program matches Lawrence students ("Big buddies") with K-6 Edison Elementary students ("Little buddies") to support the younger students both in and out of the classroom. Edison students benefit by having additional support academically, socially, and behaviorally. Lawrence students have the opportunity to share their academic success while building relationships and gaining new experiences. Big buddies go to class, recess, or lunch with their little buddy for one-two hours each week. They may also go to the park after school, take their buddy to lunch at Lawrence, attend a concert or play together, and otherwise enrich the life of their buddy.
