Open Opportunity

Since 1913, the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology Insect Collection (UMMZI) has endeavored to document Earth’s incredibly diverse world of insects by collecting specimens from around the world. We actively conduct research, grow the collection, and facilitate entomological research of scientists from other institutions with the goal of discovery and understanding of the organisms that live around us. With the readily available photographic equipment and ease of Internet access currently at our disposal, it is now possible to share our data globally in a digital format. Not only is digital data sharing possible, but also the ability to capture data remotely. Become a citizen scientist and help the UMMZI transform and mobilize its vast collection of specimen based biodiversity data into a digitally accessible and usable format. This data will not only assist scientists, but also educators, policy makers, and even land managers. For more information about this project and how to sign up, please navigate here
