Description

Volunteer to read with Edison Elementary School students during the school day! This is an opportunity for Lawrence and community volunteers to read with elementary school students and get them excited about reading.

How it works:
Each classroom has a bin with B.E.A.R and a picture of a bear on it. This stands for Be Excited About Reading. In the bin each child has a folder. Volunteers come into the classroom, find the bin, look through the folders for any books that might be in it, grab the book, and get the child whose folder the book was in and read with or to them. There is a little stapled booklet where the volunteer can record what they did and initial. In the front of the bin there are also possible questions to ask and discuss.

Attached are times for each day of the week that volunteers can go into teachers' classrooms to read with students.

If interested, you may just show up and read at the requested times. There is no need to contact the teachers and let them know you are coming.
Email Abbey Bowen at volunteer.center@lawrence.edu if you are interested or have any questions.
