Super enjoyable, the group reacted very positively and emotionally and showed that they were inspired by our playing and what we were saying. They asked many questions about college life and about music at Lawrence University and were very interested in how they could keep music a part of their life past high school.
I absolutely loved my time volunteering with ABBA at the Harbor House! I am so proud of our group for taking the initiative and putting in this much time to create and execute such a successful term of arts programming. Our goal was to provide access to the arts in underserved communities, and with that in mind I think we truly accomplished this goal! This has been such a valuable experience getting to work with the Harbor House, especially the women's support group. I think the biggest takeaway for me was how we were able to cultivate a space where we could all be creative together. I thought it was so beautiful that the creative process became a way for these women to connect and heal together.
Overall, I think this was an incredibly meaningful, special program. As volunteers, we loved getting to know the women over the weeks and really cherished the creative space we were able to reach together. I learned so much just by listening and really saw the impact a simple, creative, artistic task can have in fostering connections, conversations, and more. I highly encourage future programming like this at Harbor House
