Jesus is the Andrew W. Mellon Faculty Fellow and Assistant Professor in Ethnic Studies at Lawrence University with a PhD in Sociology from Texas A&M University in 2017 under the supervision of Joe Feagin. Prof. Smith's work focuses on the intersections of race, gender and sexuality and their impacts on health. This includes examining the tactics of past activist and comparing them to the strategies of current activist. The goal is to think about what has worked in the past and what is working presently, in order to figure out what will work in the future. Those in attendance will be urged to collectively craft anti-racist goals, strategies and solutions for their organizations, their places of employment and for their own personal journeys.  This teach in will be in Sankofa House.
