Krystal is a Staff Counselor at Lawrence University and is dedicated to de-stigmatizing mental illness and instilling hope in clients that can encourage positive life changes and promote healing. Krystal will discuss the prevalence of mental health concerns for people of color, historically and currently, that go largely unseen and unheard.  The additional mental health risks and burdens that occur because of systemic racism and discrimination within minority populations that result in disparities in accessing mental health services. The impact of treatments that are based on majority values without consideration for the cultural norms of people of color. Along with ways in which we can advocate for equity in mental health treatment. This teach in will be in Trever Hall.
