Delaney and I worked on multiplication table memorization with flashcards and repetition, as well as using an online math site where she could earn extra credit points for her class doing decimal addition and subtraction. Repetition was used for what she already knew how to do, and I introduced her to some tricks that make it easier to remember what to do.
Today Delaney and I reviewed her vocab words (people, places and things) for a Revolutionary War vocabulary test. We connected definitions with the vocab with the use of repetition, making mnemonic connection to the vocab that she was having trouble with. She has them all memorized now and can give a definition for a word as well as give the word if given a definition.
I tutored Delaney last year! We talked about her summer and then proceeded to work on a math assignment about adding and subtracting fractions, and then worked on a writing assignment, which was a journal from the perspective of a person on the Mayflower. Because she was in 4th grade last year and now 5th, I can effectively cover a wide range of subjects with her.
